Thriverr Learn: Implementing a Community Survey Cohort

What’s happening? Dakota Resources invites you to participate in a cohort training opportunity with each session designed to lead participants through action steps that help them produce a community survey and use it in their work. We will work together to understand the basics of community surveying and implement a survey in your community to gather perceptions about growth, amenities, structures, leadership, housing, and opportunities.

Who’s this for? Economic development professionals who want to better understand their community.

Session 1: Value of the Community Survey
Monday, August 19th; 1:00 p.m. CT / 12:00 p.m. MT
Zoom Session

In this session, you’ll…

  • Hear from a community who has utilized our Community Survey tool
  • Learn how to craft questions unique to your community
  • Understand what the pains & gains of surveying your community are
  • ACTION: Build a Core Team, a couple of people that would be willing to help you do this in your community

Session 2: Distribution of the Survey
Monday, August 26th; 1:00 p.m. CT / 12:00 p.m. MT
Zoom Session

In this session, you’ll…

  • Gain knowledge on survey tools
  • Understand how to choose a sample size
  • Brainstorm distribution methods within the community
  • Make a plan for gathering a representative sample
  • Draft a distribution plan
  • ACTION: Finalize distribution plan and distribute survey

Session 3: Analyzing Your Results
Monday, September 16th; 1:00 p.m. CT / 12:00 p.m. MT
Zoom Session

In this session, you’ll…

  • Talk about what to do with negative information
  • Get an idea of how much data is too much data
  • Discuss what information will be useful to what specific audience in your community
  • Make a plan for activating your results
  • ACTION: Begin working on the survey report of presentation

Session 4: Presenting the Results
Monday, September 30th; 1:00 p.m. CT / 12:00 p.m. MT
Zoom Session

In this session, you’ll…

  • Learn best practices for presenting information to the community and/or organizations using survey analysis and secondary data
  • Pitch to the cohort how you will present and activate your results
  • ACTION: Share your learning and results on Thriverr
