We will explore how we might utilize proper planning and design to build homes, cost-effective new developments, and enticing neighborhoods.

Day 1 – Tuesday, May 16, 2023

1:00 – 1:30 p.m.: Opening Circle – Welcome, Framing, and Flow

1:30 – 2:15 p.m.: WAVE Environmental Scan – Discovering what’s on the horizon, what’s emerging, what’s established, and what’s disappearing In rural housing development.

2:15 – 4:30 p.m.: Workshop – Building affordable neighborhoods with good design with Eric Ambroson, District III

  • Do you know what a “good” housing development looks like? Eric Ambroson, District III will help us learn how to utilize good design principles so that new developments offer both affordability and the features homeowners want.

3:30 – 3:45 p.m.: Break

3:45 – 4:30 p.m.: Housing Case Studies

  • Using DakotaPlex units in a pocket neighborhood in Aurora, SD with Randy Hanson, Mills Construction
  • Redeveloping second story Main Street apartment with HOF funds with Jordan Stricherz, Huron, SD

5:00 – 6:30 p.m.: Networking – sip & shop on Chamberlain’s Main Street

6:30 p.m.: Dinner at Mi Pueblo

Day 2 – Wednesday, May 17, 2023

7:30 – 8:30 a.m.: Breakfast Buffet

8:30 – 9:00 a.m.: Opening Circle

9:00 – 9:45 a.m.: Skill Building

9:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Reverse RFP with Resource Providers – providers bring a housing idea they are dreaming about or working on for their community and meet 1:1 with resource providers to create a plan forward.

12:00 – 12:45 p.m.: Lunch

12:45 – 1:30 p.m.: Skill Building – Housing Infrastructure Program workshop with Lorraine Polak, South Dakota Housing

1:30 p.m.: Closing Circle & Next Steps
