Thriverr Learn: Communicating Your Organization’s Key Messages

What’s happening? Explaining what your organization does and why your work is vital to the community’s future can be challenging.

In this cohort, participants will learn about the foundations of communications and key message development. Each session is designed to lead participants through action steps that help them produce key messages for target stakeholder groups in their communities and practice delivering those messages.

Who’s this for? Economic development professionals who want to better understand their community.

Session 1: Overview of the marketing formula + key message foundation, May 12; 12:30 p.m. CT, 11:30 p.m. MT (Zoom Session)

In this session, you’ll…

  • Discuss barriers you are facing when it comes to key message development
  • Discover a simple way to approach marketing
  • Learn about content hierarchy and why it matters
  • ACTION: Outline a rough draft of the Message Pyramid to jump-start your key message development

Session 2: Developing Your Message, May 27; 12:30 p.m. CT, 11:30 p.m. MT (Zoom Session)

In this session, you’ll…

  • Share your draft Message Pyramid with the cohort and get feedback
  • Learn how to refine your message and focus on what is “key”
  • Be challenged to clarify and simplify your message
  • ACTION: Using your Message Pyramid and group feedback, begin to narrow your key message

Session 3: Understanding Target Audiences, June 9 ,12:30 p.m. CT, 11:30 p.m. MT (Zoom Session)

In this session, you’ll…

  • Identify your target audience(s) – who do you need to share your message with?
  • Learn how to take the “temperature” of your community and how to adjust your key message accordingly
  • ACTION: Begin working on a target audience list and needs

Session 4: Best Practices: Kill them with Consistency (and kindness!) June 23, 12:30 p.m. CT, 11:30 p.m. MT (Zoom Session)

In this session, you’ll…

  • Reflect on your progress
  • Look at marketing tactics and determine the best place to start
  • How to frame your message in a positive way every time
  • ACTION: Share your final key message with the group and commit to sharing it with your target audience.
